Five for Friday: December 11

By request from some Instagram followers I'm here to share five Christmas themed/December ideas from this week and link up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs Teaching for her Five for Friday

I hope you can use them in your classroom next week or next year!

Making Sets at the Christmas Tree Decorating Centre

I encourage the kids to pick a card and decorate the tree with that many "ornaments" (either pom poms or sequins) since my tree wasn't very big number 1-5 worked best with pom poms and 6 and up worked best with the sequins.

I put dots on the back of the cards so that students can self-correct if needed!
I printed ten-frames on sticker labels and stuck them on the back before I laminated the cards.
You can also just draw them on too or use dot stickers!

Here are the trees with the sequins.

You could also have the students pattern, measure how tall the tree is with the pom poms/sequins etc.!   I love that this centre is so open-ended.

If you want to grab the number cards I used for this centre you can click here to download them for free!

Gingerbread Man Making Centre

This week we were reading gingerbread stories so I set out gingerbread play dough, gingerbread man cookie cutters and a variety of loose parts for the kids to create gingerbread men with!  This is always a big hit!

I didn't have all the traditional ingredients like cloves and ginger so I just added 2 tablespoons of cinnamon to my go-to play dough recipe and it worked out just fine :)

Wipe & Write Beginning Sounds Booklet

I recently did the Hearing and Recording Sounds in Words assessment for my SK's and realized that they are really struggling with this! My kids love anything with a wipe erase marker so I made this Christmas themed wipe & write beginning sounds booklet.

I put the answer on the back of each page so that the students can self-check as they practice!

So far the kids love it! I am planning to make a winter one and a valentine one (with beginning AND ending sounds missing to make it a little harder) too.

I have added it to my TPT store.  You can snag it for just $1.00 by clicking on the image below!

Snowglobe Craft

I got this idea from @sarahinvictoria's Instagram account and fell in love! My ECE and I worked together to complete this craft.

On the first day we painted their feet and did the glitter names.

On the second day we added the details (gluing on the hat, nose, arms and drawing the eyes, mouth and buttons with sharpies), painted the snow on the ground and finger painted the snow.

Finally I glued the snow globe together and added the poem to the back.

If you want a copy of the poem you can click here.

They all wanted to see each other's work so I taped them up on any wall space I found find lol.
They all turned out so cute!

As our Christmas gift to the students, we are giving them each a copy of the book "Sneezy the Snowman" by Maureen Wright.  We were able to use our Scholastic points to keep the cost down! Yay!

I made this activity book to go along with the gift.  It has 3 literacy activities that go with the book and 3 numeracy activities.  If they complete the activity book and bring it back the first week of school we are going to give them a little prize :)

Here is a what one of the activities inside look like!

If you are interested in the activity book, you can check it out on TPT by clicking on the image below!

That's it for this week!

I hope you can use some of these ideas next week or pin them for next year! I'm just about to leave for our holiday staff party! Yay! Have a great weekend!
